"You're virgin. Ok. And? I am a strong believer in good things
comes to those who wait. I believe you are definitely worth the wait."
I shyly grinned, "What makes you thinks so?"
"I am usually a good judge of character. Just our conversation
now. The fact you have been saving yourself. Now that is out of the way. It's
getting late. Let me get you home."
"Oh it’s cool. I can take the bus."
He laughed as he remove his phone from his holster, "Umm, hell no.
I want to make sure you get home safely...Excuse me just one second.... Yes we
are on Fountain Square near Fifth Street...Thank you...Come on. Let’s get you
home."
We stood up and started walking towards Fifth Street, "Ok who was
that?"
"That was my driver. I don't always let him drive me around but
parking downtown is horrible." Within ten minutes, a black Lincoln Town
car pulled up. He opened the door for me and I slid over on the seat. "What’s
your address?"
I recited my address to the driver. I just sat back in awe at this man
next to me. How long would this gentleman act go on?
"So Ms. Macy when can I take you on a proper first date?"
"Uh um honestly I don't know. Tomorrow is my only off day. I have
been working extra hours so I can move to a better apartment with my best
friend Sylver."
He smiled, "That's perfect. I am off tomorrow now too. I'll pick
you up at 3. Is that good for you?" He laughed as my mouth dropped open
wide. "I will take that as a yes."
"Wow pushy are we?" I asked.
He grabbed my hand, "Seriously if it is a problem say so."
I sat back in silence all the rest of the way to my apartment in
Silverton. When we stopped I reached for the handle.
He released my hand and said, "Let me get the door for you.
Please." I raised my hands as in surrender. He got out the car and walked
around to my side to open the door. He reached out his hand to help me out. We
walk to the front of my building hand in hand. “Thank you for giving me the
opportunity to talk to you today. I enjoyed your company. I really hope you let
me take you out tomorrow."
I smiled softly and playfully rolled my eyes, "That's fine. I will
see you tomorrow at 3. Bye Rollins."
I got out of the shower around 1:30. While straightening my hair I
received a text from Rollins telling me to dress comfortable. I smiled as I
finished my hair. I threw on my new black jeans, my UC bearcats jersey and
sweatshirt. I cleaned up my living room so he wouldn't think I was a complete
slob.
Right at 3:00 my doorbell rang. I looked out the window and saw his
car. I buzzed him in and left the door ajar. I sat down on the couch and
started putting on my black and red Nike Air Max. He knocked on the door as he
gently pushed it open. He was so sexy wearing Sean John jeans and matching
shirt. He walked over to me, helped me to my feet and then into his arms. Even
his hug was sensual.
"I love your hair. So are you ready Ms. Macy?" he asked
holding my hands.
"Um...Um Yeah. But you don't have to call me Ms. Macy. Just Macy
is fine." I grabbed my purse and keys. He followed me out of the apartment
and building.
"Actually I prefer Ms. Macy." I nodded my head in agreement.
We rode to Eden Park where we walked around the wading pool talking and
holding hands. It was interesting how open he was. I learned about his first
girlfriend, his first time, and even his last time getting a whooping. My phone rang and I ignored it. He looked
confused.
"Do you need to get that? It may be important. It’s okay."
I exhaled and answered my phone. "Hello...Hello? Serenity?" I
heard her voice but she wasn't talking to me. Then I heard her scream. "Oh
my God!" I heard her boyfriend Rayshawn in the background yelling and
cursing. I covered my mouth and sat down on the bench as I heard a crash. Tears
started rolling down my face.
"What’s wrong?" Rollins stood directly in front of me. I
handed him the phone. He listened then grabbed my hand and pulled me off the
bench. "Let's go! Do you know where they are?"
"Uh... yeah... probably at his house in Winton Terrance.
Why?"
"Here, use my phone to call 9-1-1 and send them there. Tell the
driver where it is also." I did as he said as we ran to the car.
I don't think I ever rode in a car going so fast. Tears still streamed
down my face. I was so scared for my sister. I was hoping she broke up with
him. How can a person go back to an abusive relationship? What if he really
hurts her this time? What if he kills her? Rollins saved me from my thoughts by
grabbing my hand.
"Is this the first time this has happened?"
I took a deep breath and responded, “No this isn't. I tried to save her
before. I had her staying at my house so my parents wouldn't see the bruises
and so I could watch her. She left this morning saying she was going to the
school library."
"How long has this been going on?"
"Who knows but I started noticing something six months ago and
called her out about it. The first time she told me she got into a fight at a
club. The second time I notice something was up, I was visiting her. I went to
the bathroom. He came home and did not know I was there." Tears flowed
more. I continued, "He was mad about something and was yelling. When I made
my way to the living room, all I saw was her hitting the ground and him
standing above her." Rollins squeezed my hand a little tighter.
"Let me guess, she convinced you to keep it a secret. Or this was
the first time? Or he didn't mean it and she provoked him in some way?"
When we pulled onto the street, we saw the ambulance and police cars.
The driver got as close as he could. I jumped out and ran the rest of the way
to the house. I froze when I saw the stretcher coming from the house and rushed
to the ambulance.
"Serenity!" a police man grabbed me. "That is my sister!
Let me go! Let me go!" He finally let me go then a paramedic helped me in
the ambulance with my sister. She was unconscious with a swollen eye and busted
lip. I watched them work over her. All I could do was cry into my hands.
At the hospital, they had me wait in the lobby while they dealt with
Serenity. I rested my face into my hands and tried to take a deep breath.
Without notice, I felt someone sat next to me. I looked up and it was Rollins.
Through tears I asked, "What are you doing here?"
He handed me some tissues. "Did you think I would let you go
through this alone? Plus we are still on a date. Did you call your
parents?"
"No not yet. I am scared to. Sorry about this. Let’s just be
honest. This is how my life is always. There is never a dull moment. There
seems to be always some kind of drama following me. This may be a good time to
end this before it goes any farther. You need a simple yet perfect model type
woman. And that is far from being me. I understand and would appreciate you
leaving now." I told him and placed my face back in my hands.
He sat back in his chair and exhaled. He used his hand to rub my back
gently.
"Are you Serenity King's sister?" I sat up and saw a doctor
standing directly in front of me. I nodded my head slowly. "I am Dr.
Stockton. Your sister suffered a grade 3 concussion, bruised ribs, and some
other minor bruising. We want to keep her until tomorrow to watch her. She is
resting now. When she wakes, I will have a nurse come and get you."
Rollins stood and shook the doctor’s hand, "Thank you,
Doctor." As the doctor walked away he sat back down next to me. "Ms.
Macy come here please."
I ignored his request and continued to cry in my hands. He pulled me
slowly into his arms and rested my head on his chest.
"If you haven't notice yet, I am not going anywhere. You intrigue
me. I really want to learn more about you and see where this can go. You may
not believe me but I believe in love at first sight."
